For Jack’s Mannequin’s highly anticipated MFEO Tour, I was commissioned to create a visually striking tour poster that captured the essence of the band’s music, the significance of their reunion, and the emotional weight of their return to the stage. This world tour was a major moment for fans and the band alike, and the artwork needed to reflect that nostalgia and excitement while feeling fresh and memorable.
(MY APPROACAH)
The design approach revolved around surreal storytelling, balancing nostalgia with a fresh visual identity for the tour. Drawing inspiration from the MFEO song and Jack’s Mannequin’s emotive, atmospheric music, I envisioned a dreamlike narrative—one that felt both intimate and expansive. The astronaut figures, floral elements, and cosmic distortions symbolize themes of connection, distance, and timeless love, mirroring the themes of the band’s music and their return to the stage.
(VISION & INNOVATION)
The vision was to create an illustration that embodied the melancholy yet hopeful energy of Jack’s Mannequin’s music. The dinner table setup between the two astronauts represents a reunion—whether between the band and fans, past and present selves, or even two people meant to be together against all odds. The warped space-time effect visually translates the feeling of a memory becoming tangible again, much like the band’s return to touring.
(CHALLENGES)
One of the biggest challenges was striking the right balance between conceptual depth and accessibility. The artwork needed to feel surreal and artistic while still being legible as a tour poster, ensuring the text and tour dates were clear.
Another challenge was working within a tight timeline, as the poster had to be finalized before the tour announcement while still leaving room for potential date changes.
(PROBLEMS)
An early problem was ensuring that the astronaut dinner table concept remained emotionally resonant rather than feeling overly abstract. Initially, some compositions felt too disconnected or visually overwhelming, so I refined the layout to emphasize the human connection—even within the sci-fi elements. Another issue was ensuring the color palette felt dynamic yet on-brand, avoiding anything that felt too harsh while still maintaining vibrancy.
(USER-CENTRIC DESIGN)
The poster was designed with Jack’s Mannequin fans in mind—many of whom have deep emotional ties to the band’s music. The surreal yet inviting aesthetic creates a conversation piece that resonates on multiple levels: some may see it as a love story, others as a metaphor for personal growth or nostalgia. The artwork is also designed to look great in multiple formats, whether as a printed poster, merch design, or digital promotional asset.
(USER NEEDS)
Fans needed a collectible, memorable piece of art that captured the heart of Jack’s Mannequin’s reunion. Beyond just listing tour dates, the poster had to feel like a celebration of the band’s legacy, evoking a sense of belonging and emotional connection. The final design successfully bridges the gap between art and function, serving both as a keepsake for longtime listeners and an engaging promotional tool for new audiences discovering the band.
