Retro Supply Co. Stipple Brush Pack
RetroSupply Co., a leading brand for vintage-inspired design resources, sought to create a compelling new stippling brush pack for Procreate. This product was designed to give illustrators powerful tools to achieve rich textures and intricate details. RetroSupply approached me to conceptualize and create custom artwork that would not only showcase the brushes’ versatility but also capture the unique vintage aesthetic that aligns with their brand.
RetroSupply wanted illustrations that demonstrated the brushes’ capabilities across multiple use cases, including gradient textures, two-color shading, and subtle shadows. These designs needed to appeal to a creative audience and provide a visual representation of how the brushes could elevate their artwork. The artwork also had to align with RetroSupply’s vintage aesthetic while providing flexibility for packaging and marketing assets.
The Brief
Design Process
In the first presentation deck (Concepts V1), I proposed six potential directions. Each concept highlighted different use cases for the brushes:
• Concept 1: Focused on creating depth through shading.
• Concept 5: Introduced a goldfish swimming against the norm as a metaphor for the creative potential of stippling.
• Concept 6 & 7: Focused on modular assets showcasing gradients and patterns.
Feedback from RetroSupply helped refine these ideas, focusing on concepts that blended aesthetic appeal with functional utility for marketing materials.
2. Refinement & Finalization
Based on RetroSupply’s feedback, I narrowed down the options in Concepts V2. I further refined the compositions and incorporated additional assets that demonstrated how the brushes could be used for texture, shading, and intricate details. The final illustrations not only served as packaging art but were also adapted for marketing visuals, including promotional banners and social media.
The Final Product
The finished artwork captured the essence of RetroSupply’s vintage aesthetic while showcasing the unique capabilities of the stippling brushes. From subtle gradients to bold texture applications, each illustration served as an inspirational example for artists exploring stippling in their own work.
Results
The Stipple Brush Pack was successfully launched, resonating with RetroSupply’s creative audience and driving significant engagement across their platforms. The illustrations helped potential customers visualize the brushes’ potential, contributing to strong initial sales and positive feedback.
